FIT THE CONTINENTS TOGETHER

Like a cracked eggshell, the earth's surface is broken into many puzzle-shaped pieces called crustal plates. The plates are made up of land masses and sea floor. They are always moving, pushed around by circling currents of molten rock inside the earth.

Teacher:
Tell students about the motion of the Earth's plates which has been carrying the continents around over millions of years. Say—but don't show—that at one point (250 million years ago) the current continents were all packed together into one giant continent, Pangaea. Pangaea broke apart 200 million years ago, and the continents have drifted into their current positions since then.
