Background Information

Accurate weather forecasts require a lot of background preparation. Here is where your student's hard work will payoff. The many hours spent learning how to collect and interpret weather data will be showcased in a live weather broadcast.

Key Questions

  • none

Vocabulary

  • none

Procedure

1. Discuss the local television station's weather reports and ask for student input as to how the weather was reported. For example, what information did the meteorologist start the weather broadcast with, how did he/she use weather maps, satellites, and radar images.

2. If time permits, have each student present a weather forecast for one of the 13 weather stations or you may wish to divide your students into groups and have each group present a weather broadcast. Students should have computer printouts of their data and the images they wish to present. Students should also create a large weather map to refer to during their broadcast.

Evaluation

Students will be evaluated how well they interpret and present their data.
