Life on the River
The rivers of Hampton Roads have changed drastically over the last 400 years because of the increased number of people that have settled the area. Through hands-on, interactive activities we will educate your students using Social Studies and Science. Examine the relationship and early interactions between the Powhatan Indians and the settlers and investigate cultural differences that affected the two. Learn what mistakes the early settlers made and how this worked against their success in the new world. Move forward in time and explore how the increase in population put a strain on local rivers.
