  • Where: Nauticus – located on the Downtown Norfolk waterfront
  • When: Wednesday - December 9, 2009. 10:00am - 5:00pm.
  • What: Visit the National Geographic blockbuster Real Pirates exhibition coming to Nauticus! This exhibit will only be at Nauticus for a limited time from November 21, 2009 - April 4, 2010 and features real treasure and a replica of a pirate ship visitors can board! This special day for homeschoolers will allow you to visit this exhibition at a discounted rate, and also experience all that Nauticus offers including special hands-on workshops.
  • Price: $12.95 per child (ages 4-17); $14.95 per adult; children 3 and under complimentary. This rate includes a timed ticket to tour the Real Pirates exhibition, Nauticus admission, special workshops offered this day only for homeschoolers at Nauticus and the Hampton Roads Naval Museum (must pre-register - limited space), and guided tours of Battleship Wisconsin. Normal admission rates to the Real Pirates exhibition any other day is $18.95 for adults and $14.95 for children. Tickets are non-refundable.

What you will experience:

Workshops will be on pre-registration basis only, first come first serve.

  • LAST CHANCE to see our traveling exhibit It's a Nano World! This exhibit introduces visitors to really small things (both inside and outside the body) and the tools scientists use to see them. This exhibit leaves Nauticus on January 3, 2010.
  • Tour of the National Geographic Real Pirates exhibition featuring real treasure, and a replica of a pirate ship that visitors can board! This exhibition tells the story of the Whydah - a slave ship turned pirate ship that sank off the coast of Cape Cod nearly 300 years ago! You will be assigned a timed ticket for entry to this exhibition.
  • Hands-on workshops from Nauticus and the Hampton Roads Naval Museum including Cool Chemistry, Underwater Archeology, a special Nano World workshop, Life at Sea, guided tours of Battleship Wisconsin and more! You MUST pre-register for these workshops - they will be offered three times throughout the day and are limited to 30 people per session. Enjoy additional special programming as well including our Science on a Sphere, Horseshoe crab cove touch tank, shark experience, large screen hi-def movies, NEW Creature Features program, and more! We also have visitors from the Mariners Museum!
